A magnitude 6.1 earthquake struck Taitung County in southeastern Taiwan at around 5:47 p.m. Wednesday, according to Taiwan’s Central Weather Administration.

The quake had a depth of about 11.9 km and shook buildings as far away as Taipei, but there were no immediate reports of damage.

Shaking was also felt in Kaohsiung, about 90 kilometers west of Taitung County.
