Valencia, Spain - December 29, 2025 A severe weather episode hit the province of Valencia on Sunday, December 29, 2025, bringing heavy rains and thunderstorms that prompted emergency evacuations and rescue operations. The Guardia Civil evacuated 38 residents from Levante Street in La Pobla Llarga as a precaution due to the rising Barxeta stream. Residents were moved to the municipality’s Casa de la Juventud for safety, while one person with reduced mobility took shelter with a relative on a second floor. Rainfall totals exceeded 180 liters per square meter in areas including Simat de la Valldigna, l'Alcúdia, Guadassuar, Barxeta, Carcaixent, and Rafelguaraf, with some locations recording over 200 liters. Many areas also experienced hail. The Provincial Emergency Coordination Center declared Situation 1 under the Special Flood Plan for the entire province. Firefighters from the Consorcio Provincial de Valencia rescued seven people whose vehicles were stranded between two flooded crossings along the Horteta stream in Torrent. In Carcaixent, firefighters helped two 90-year-old residents with mobility issues, evacuating them from a ground-floor home using a boat. Although no serious injuries were reported, authorities emphasized the ongoing risk and the importance of vigilance as storms affected the region.
