Bondi Attack Suspects Acted Alone, No Training in Philippines. Australian police said the two men accused of killing 15 people at a Jewish Hanukkah festival in Sydney were not part of a wider terrorist network. Authorities confirmed that Sydney residents Sajid Akram and his son Naveed Akram spent most of November in the Philippines but did not receive training or logistical support there. According to police, Philippine investigators found the pair rarely left their hotel during their stay in Davao City. Police said there was no evidence the suspects belonged to a broader terrorist cell, although they were allegedly inspired by the Islamic State group. Naveed Akram faces dozens of charges, including 15 counts of murder and a terrorism offence, and remains in custody after being shot during the attack. New South Wales Premier Chris Minns said increased security was necessary after the worst terror attack in Australia’s history. Victims of the Bondi attack will be honoured with a minute’s silence and menorah projections on the Sydney Harbour Bridge during New Year’s Eve events.
