VARIOUS OF VEHICLE TRYING TO MOVE THROUGH FLOODWATERS MALAGA, SPAIN - DEC. 28 - RESTRICTION: USERS MUST CREDIT “@MariiaGalvez55 via X” HANDOUT, MUST NOT OBSCURE LOGO —EDITORIAL USE ONLY— Heavy rainfall across Malaga province in southern Spain prompted authorities to issue an extreme danger weather alert late Saturday, which was later lifted after conditions eased.
The downpour affected Malaga city, the western Costa del Sol, and the Guadalhorce Valley, prompting Spain’s meteorological agency to activate a red-level alert for several hours.
Emergency ES-Alert warnings were sent to residents in multiple municipalities as local authorities activated civil protection plans due to flooding risks.
Several towns, including Marbella, Estepona, Fuengirola, and Cartama, reported flooded streets, homes, and garages. Flooding also forced the closure of the A-7057 road in Cartama, while landslides shut down parts of the A-397 road linking Ronda with the Costa del Sol.
Emergency services responded to dozens of weather-related incidents, and more than 20 flights bound for Malaga Airport were diverted due to adverse conditions.
The alert was lifted overnight as rainfall weakened, though authorities urged continued caution.
