VARIOUS OF PEOPLE PRAYING FOR VICTIMS OF RECENT BORDER CONFLICT PHNOM PENH, CAMBODIA - DEC. 29, 2025: More than 2,500 people, including Buddhist monks and civilians, gathered at the Win-Win Memorial in Cambodia’s capital Phnom Penh, on Monday, Dec. 29, take part in a Buddhist ceremony mourning the victims of a recent border conflict.

The ceremony, led by more than 100 monks, drew students and followers of Buddhism and was held at the Win-Win Memorial, a monument established in 2018 to mark the end of Cambodia’s civil wars.

The ceremony comes as participants mourn fallen soldiers and civilians and pray for lasting peace, following a ceasefire agreement reached between Thailand and Cambodia on Dec. 27 that ended weeks of fighting along the border. The truce was welcomed by several countries, including China and the United States.

Cambodia and Thailand signed the ceasefire agreement on Saturday, ending nearly 20 days of clashes that killed dozens and displaced nearly 1 million civilians along their disputed border.

Under the arrangement, both sides agreed to halt all armed hostilities and avoid unprovoked fire, troop advances, or movements toward each other’s positions.

The ceasefire applies along the entire border and covers military targets, civilians, and infrastructure, with Thailand set to return 18 Cambodian soldiers after the truce is fully maintained for 72 hours, ending at noon on Tuesday.
