SOUNDBITE (Spanish) Oscar Pino, local resident: "We are demanding that the genocidal government of the United States return him to us, or give us proof of life of our president, who was kidnapped in a cowardly, despicable operation of the imperialist government, which wants to take over our resources. The U.S. is not interested in freedom or democracy, it is interested in our oil and our natural resources." 3. Various of residents queuing in front of store for necessities 4. SOUNDBITE (Spanish) Jose Hernandez, local resident (ending with shot 5): "What the United States has acted is criminal, as it invaded Venezuelan territory. The other countries of the world really need to be very clear about the attitude and the completely criminal way in which the United States is acting. It's all about extracting resources or rather stealing resources from the countries that have energy and minerals." 5. Various of protesters 6. SOUNDBITE (Spanish) Olivia Fernandez, local resident (ending with shot 7): "President Maduro will return. He will return. Whether others like it or not, Venezuela will continue to be led by him. The revolution will continue even if President Maduro isn't here, because the people are here for that." 7. Various of local residents, statue at Bolivar Square Storyline Venezuelans on Saturday gathered in the capital Caracas to condemn the U.S. airstrikes on the country earlier on the day and express their solidarity with President Nicolas Maduro. During the U.S. large-scale strike on Venezuela, Maduro and his wife were "captured and flown out of Venezuela," according to a post by U.S. President Donald Trump on his Truth Social account on Saturday. Protesters waved national flags and chanted slogans in support of Maduro, demanding that the U.S. government immediately release Maduro and guarantee his personal safety. "We are demanding that the genocidal government of the United States return him to us, or give us proof of life of our president who was kidnapped in a cowardly, despicable operation of the imperialist government, which wants to take over our resources. The United States is not interested in freedom or democracy, it is interested in our oil and our natural resources," said local resident Oscar Pino. Whether others like it or not, Venezuela will continue to be led by him. The revolution will continue even if President Maduro isn't here, because the people are here for that," said another resident Olivia Fernandez. In downtown Caracas, traffic on the streets remained sparse on Saturday after the attacks. Long queues were seen outside some shops that remained open, with local residents stocking up on food and daily necessities. In an area suspected of having been bombed, road sections have been cordoned off. Several armed soldiers and police officers are stationed at the scene. They told reporters that filming was prohibited for the time being. [Restrictions: No access Chinese mainland]
