Furious female restaurant customer fights 12 armed police because 'app payment was not working'
This is the dramatic moment a furious female diner clashed with 12 armed police officers after being unable to pay for her meal using a mobile app.
Ms Liu, 32, was furious when her phone battery died as she stood at the counter to pay for her dinner at the noodle shop in the New Territories, Hong Kong.
The shop owner said that Ms Liu began arguing with a member of staff who offered to charge the phone so payment could be made through the WeChat app on January 3.
But the enraged woman then allegedly grabbed a meat cleaver and a pair of scissors from the restaurant and brandished them in the dining area, causing terrified diners to flee the premises on Lung Sum Avenue in Sheung Shui.
The owner said: 'Initially, the customer tried to pay. There was nothing overly unusual about her behaviour. She had ordered noodles and drank a glass of water.
'When her phone died, I offered to let her charge the device in the shop, but she became agitated and rushed into our kitchen to grab the butcher's knife and scissors.
'I immediately hid away and called the police, who arrived quickly.'
Dozens of armed officers from the Hong Kong Police Force (HKPF) arrived at the scene, where they split into two groups to corner the rampaging woman.
CCTV footage shows Ms Liu, armed with the blades, standing in the middle of the dining area where chopsticks, soup, and other utensils lay scattered across the floor.
Having refused to cooperate with the authorities, she lunged at the officers as they entered the shop.
Ms Liu could be heard shouting, 'hey, hey' as she tackled her with batons. Her blades could be scraping against the tactical shields.
This prompted one officer to push forward, causing the woman to lose her balance and fall to the floor. However, she scrambled back to her feet immediately to continue her assault on the police.
One group pushed through the main entrance while the other appeared from a side door, flanking and subduing the suspect.
Moments later, they managed to restrain the woman on the floor and placed her on a stretcher.
In another clip, the suspect can be seen arguing with a paramedic while being wheeled to the vehicle.
Onlookers said that the woman continued to yell until she was placed inside the ambulance.
The entire confrontation lasted approximately 15 minutes.
Ms Liu reportedly sustained a minor hand injury and was taken to North District Hospital for treatment.
She was subsequently arrested on suspicion of 'possession of an offensive weapon, criminal damage, and assaulting a police officer'.
