Bjork has issued a blistering statement against "cruel coloniser" President Donald Trump's threats to seize Greenland. The Icelandic singer sent her well wishes to the people of Greenland "in their fight for independence”. In an Instagram post, the singer called the prospect of seeing Greenland fall under US control "too brutal to even imagine”. "I wish all Greenlanders blessing in their fight for independence. Icelanders are extremely relieved that they managed to break from the Danish in 1944... and I burst with sympathy for Greenlanders. Colonialism has repeatedly given me horror chills up my back, and the chance that my fellow Greenlanders might go from one cruel coloniser to another is too brutal to even imagine.” She then shared a quote in Icelandic, "Ur öskunni í eldinn," which translates as "Out of the frying pan and into the fire”. The post was accompanied by a photo of a map of Greenland with its flag superimposed on top. Talks of Greenland possibly being next in line for a US takeover come after Saturday's dramatic capture of Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores, amid the US military strike on Caracas, Venezuela's capital. Trump has repeatedly expressed interest in taking control of Greenland, Denmark's semi-autonomous territory and a NATO ally. Over the weekend, Trump told The Atlantic, "We absolutely need Greenland. We need it for defence.”
