ANKARA, TÜRKİYE - JAN. 7: Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim paid tribute at Anitkabir, the mausoleum of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, founder of the Republic of Türkiye, on Wednesday, Jan. 7 during an official visit to the country.

Ibrahim, who arrived in Türkiye on Jan. 6 as the official guest of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, was accompanied by his wife Wan Azizah Ismail during the visit to the memorial site in the capital Ankara.

National Defense Minister Yasar Guler and his wife Demet Guler accompanied the Malaysian delegation during the Anitkabir visit, according to a statement from the Ministry of National Defense's social media account.

Ibrahim arrived at Esenboga Airport on Tuesday for the three-day official visit, which runs through Jan. 8, the ministry said. Guler welcomed the Malaysian prime minister and his wife at the airport.

The first meeting of the Türkiye-Malaysia High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council is scheduled to be held Wednesday, Communications Director Burhanettin Duran said in a statement on his social media account.

Several agreements are expected to be signed to strengthen the bilateral relations framework between Türkiye and Malaysia, Duran noted.
