Porthleven, United Kingdom - January 08, 2026 Storm Goretti is wreaking havoc across Britain, leaving tens of thousands without electricity, causing significant travel chaos and forcing schools to shut their doors. The ferocious winter conditions delivered winds reaching 99mph, prompting the Met Office to issue a rare red alert warning of dangerous, stormy conditions across the South West. According to the National Grid&'s website, more than 43,000 homes were left in darkness across the South West by 6am this morning, Friday, while approximately 14,000 properties in the West Midlands and 530 in Wales were similarly affected.
