WASHINGTON, US -JANUARY 9: US President Donald Trump met with top executives from major American oil companies on Friday, Jan. 9, at the White House to discuss investment opportunities in Venezuela's oil sector following recent U.S. military intervention.
The meeting included leaders from Chevron, ExxonMobil, ConocoPhillips, Shell, and other energy firms, alongside Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Energy Secretary Chris Wright.
Trump outlined plans for American companies to rebuild Venezuela's oil infrastructure and boost production. He noted that Venezuela delivered 30 million barrels of oil valued at $4 billion to the U.S. on Thursday.
The president said his administration would determine which companies receive authorization to operate in Venezuela and provide security guarantees. Trump projected oil companies would invest at least $100 billion to develop necessary infrastructure.
He stated that Venezuela agreed to allow immediate U.S. refining and sale of up to 50 million barrels of Venezuelan crude. ExxonMobil executives said they could deploy teams and begin operations within weeks.
Another meeting on Venezuelan oil is scheduled for next week.
