London, United Kingdom - January 11, 2026 A massive nighttime solidarity rally unfolded in central London on the evening of January 11, 2026, outside 10 Downing Street near Parliament Square and Whitehall, as several thousand demonstrators gathered in a peaceful show of support for the uprising in Iran. Video filmed by X user Niyak Ghorbani shows a dense crowd assembled beneath bare winter trees, illuminated by streetlights and framed by historic government buildings, including the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office. Protesters filled both grassy and paved areas, bundled in winter coats, hats, and scarves. The footage, made up of multiple clips, captures a sea of flags waving above the crowd. These included pre-1979 Iranian “Lion and Sun” banners symbolizing opposition to the Islamic Republic, alongside Union Jacks, Israeli flags, and others. Many participants raised phone flashlights or torches, creating a unified glow across the gathering. Placards and banners were visible throughout the crowd, with messages such as “STOP THE HATE” standing out. The atmosphere remained energetic and orderly, with demonstrators chanting, listening to speakers using a stage or megaphones, and showing solidarity without visible confrontations or disruptions. The protest was organized by groups including Stop The Hate UK and the Iranian Committee for Freedom, in collaboration with the Association of Anglo-Iranian Women and Our Fight UK. Around 3,000 people attended, voicing support for the nationwide uprising in Iran against the Islamic Republic. Demonstrators called on UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer to designate the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as a terrorist organization, condemn human rights abuses, and support the Iranian people amid economic collapse, hyperinflation, and violent crackdowns since late December 2025. Speakers, including Nigel Farage, stressed international solidarity and the heavy cost paid by Iranians seeking change. Similar rallies took place the same day in Paris and Istanbul.
