UNCAPTIONED: Bill and Hillary Clinton Refuse House Epstein Testimony, Face Possible Contempt
Bill and Hillary Clinton Refuse House Epstein Testimony, Face Possible Contempt. Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton refused to testify in a Republican-led House investigation into the late financier Jeffrey Epstein, calling the probe partisan. In a joint letter to James Comer, chair of the House Oversight Committee, the Clintons said they had reached a point where they were prepared to “fight for this country” despite potential consequences. Comer said the committee will meet next week to vote on holding Bill Clinton in contempt of Congress, a step that could potentially open the door to criminal charges. A committee spokesperson said contempt proceedings could also begin against Hillary Clinton if she does not appear before lawmakers as requested. The Clintons said they had already shared what “little information” they had and accused Republicans of diverting attention from failures surrounding Epstein’s prosecution and death in custody in 2019. Comer argued that the public wants answers about Bill Clinton’s past ties to Epstein, citing claims that Epstein visited the White House multiple times and that Clinton flew on Epstein’s plane. Bill Clinton has previously said he regretted the association and maintained he had no knowledge of Epstein’s criminal activity, with no evidence linking him to sex trafficking. The refusal comes as the Justice Department continues releasing Epstein-related files under a transparency law, while the Clintons’ lawyers argue the subpoenas are invalid and politically motivated.
