Venezuelan Opposition Leader Hands Nobel Medal to Trump in Private White House Meeting. Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado says she presented her Nobel Peace Prize medal to President Donald Trump, during a private White House meeting on Thursday, calling it a historic moment for Venezuelans. The meeting came weeks after U.S. forces seized President Nicolás Maduro in Caracas and charged him in a drug-trafficking case. Trump later described the gesture as a sign of "mutual respect" and said it was an honor to meet Machado. Machado told supporters outside the White House that Venezuelans could count on Trump, praising what she called his commitment to their freedom. Trump has previously referred to her as a "freedom fighter," but has stopped short of endorsing her as Venezuela's next leader, instead working with interim leader Delcy Rodríguez. The Nobel Committee later clarified that while the medal can change hands, the Nobel Peace Prize itself cannot be transferred.
