Karachi, Pakistan - January 19, 2026 A massive fire that broke out at Gul Plaza shopping mall on M.A. Jinnah Road in Karachi has been brought under control after hours of firefighting. The blaze claimed at least 10 lives, including a firefighter, while 22 people were injured and shifted to nearby hospitals.Multiple portions of the building collapsed during the fire, and authorities warn that the remaining front structure could collapse at any moment. Over 60 people are still reported missing. More than 1,000 shops were housed in the plaza, most of which were completely destroyed, especially on the ground and mezzanine floors. A total of 26 fire tenders, 10 water bowzers, and 4 snorkels took part in the operation.Rescue and relief efforts involved the district administration, Sindh Rangers, Pakistan Navy, Civil Aviation Authority, and other emergency services. Roads surrounding the plaza were sealed to facilitate rescue operations. Officials confirmed that the building was constructed in 1989.
