Greensboro, United States - January 14, 2026 Buddhist monks taking part in the Walk for Peace continued their cross-country journey Tuesday in Greensboro, sharing a message of mindfulness and unity. The pilgrimage is passing through Charlotte, Greensboro, and Raleigh over the next few weeks. Hundreds of people gathered outside the Chua Quan Am Temple to hear the monks speak. The Venerable Bhikkhu Pannakara emphasized the importance of managing both good and bad days. “We have good days and bad days, but we have to know how to manage it,” he said. He also encouraged people to live intentionally and find purpose in life. “Nobody in this world will love you more than yourself, and in order for you to love yourself, you have to find the purpose in life,” Pannakara added. Residents attending the event said they were moved by the monks’ calm presence. Brian Hoskins highlighted the importance of fostering thoughtfulness and neighborly behavior. “We need to be more neighborly. I think it needs to start from a micro aspect, and then just branch out,” he said. Kuku Naing said the monks’ message helped bring the community together. “This is very simple, not political, not religion, just for the peace. Everybody needs the peace,” he said. The Walk for Peace began in Texas and is expected to conclude in Washington, D.C. Officials advise drivers to slow down and stay alert if they encounter the monks on the road.
