Dublin, Ireland - January 27, 2026 A Dublin suburb was suddenly submerged as heavy rain from Storm Chandra triggered severe flash flooding on January 27, 2026. Video filmed by X user Ian Hynes-Kelly shows fast-moving, sediment-laden brown water rushing through Milltown, Dublin 8, a low-lying residential area along the River Dodder. Floodwater covered curbs, pavements, and sections of the road, reaching depths from several inches to over a foot, carrying debris along with it. Captured from a safe street-level position, the footage highlights soaked streets, partially submerged cars, brick and stone houses, trees, and street lamps under relentless rain. No people appear, underscoring how quickly the area became dangerous and impassable. The River Dodder overflowed near the Dropping Well pub and Milltown Park, producing some of the worst flooding the suburb has seen in years. Roads were blocked, vehicles abandoned, and residents faced hazardous conditions. The storm caused widespread disruption across Dublin, including commuter rail delays, school closures, and power outages affecting between 2,500 and 20,000 households. Hynes-Kelly’s video provides a vivid, real-time view of the flooding’s rapid onset and destructive force in Milltown.
