4. WOMAN SPEAKING PAKISTAN-ADMINISTERED KASHMIR - JAN. 27, 2026: Protests were held across Pakistan-administered Kashmir on Tuesday, Jan. 27 ahead of a scheduled court hearing in India for Kashmiri pro-freedom leader Yasin Malik.
The demonstrations followed a call by the Public Action Committee for a complete shutter-down strike on Jan. 27, resulting in markets remaining fully closed in several areas. Protest rallies were organized across the region to oppose the upcoming hearing.
India’s Delhi High Court has scheduled a hearing in Malik’s case for Jan. 28, 2026, during which a demand for the death penalty may also be included. Malik is currently held in Tihar Jail in New Delhi.
Yasin Malik is the chairman of the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) and a prominent figure in the Kashmiri freedom movement.
His wife, Mushal Malik, appealed to the international community to intervene and stop the court proceedings, warning that a death sentence could escalate tensions between India and Pakistan and have global consequences.
