Footage has emerged of the moment a lorry hit the central reservation of a motorway in China, spilling hundreds, possibly thousands, of baby chickens onto the road.

The CCTV video, filmed in Hechi, Guangxi Zhuang on May 12, shows the vehicle colliding with the middle of the road and tipping onto its side.

It also features aftermath footage, including rescue workers scooping dozens of chicks at a time with a shovel.

According to local reports, the driver was injured but is now recovering.

It's not known how many of the chicks were killed but the video suggests many survived.

The CCTV video, captured in Hechi, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region on May 12, shows a lorry crashing into central reservation and flipping over on motorway.

Whilst, around a hundred thousand of chicks loaded on the lorry are scattered on the road.

Lorry driver climbed out by himself and one passenger trapped in the lorry was rescued after half an hour.

The driver had minor injury, while the passenger had leg injuries but he was out of danger.

Lorry driver's fatigue driving caused the accident, according to local news.
