Shocking dashcam footage has emerged of a driver hitting a child cycling out of a carpark in a residential area.

The video, captured on September 24 in Montreal, Canada, shows the boy turning onto the road quickly, leaving no chance for the driver to brake on time.

The child can be seen rolling on the car bonnet before he falls on the floor.

"Police officers and paramedics were soon on-scene. Paramedics were taking care of the kid, while police officers took an official statement from me," the driver wrote online.

"They had told me that the scene of the accident told the whole story: my car had a short braking distance and the position of my car in relation to parking lot gave me no time to react."

"The kid didn't have any major injuries, but was taken to a hospital as a precautionary measure. He might've had a minor concussion," he added.

"The most important thing, though, is that the kid was alive and well."
