Huge waves from Storm Eleanor crashed over the sea wall in St Ives on Wednesday morning, flooding streets and damaging property.

A video showed the double doors of the Porthminster Gallery had been burst open by the force of the water, with some of them off their hinges.

Bystanders were filmed watching as wave after wave inundated the harbour road.

High tide this morning saw massive waves and tidal surge from Storm Eleanor crash over the harbour wall and burst into a local art gallery. Two double doors were broken open by the power of the waves, with one ripped of its hinges, which can be seen floating in the flood waters. No doubt an expensive insurance claim for the owner. At time of shooting the police had been unable to contact the keyholder for the property.

The harbour road and several side streets had been cordoned off by police around the morning high tide, but plucky cafe and restaurant owners were still putting table and chairs out for the huge amount of storm watchers who will visit the town later today.
