Nearly 300 swimmers gathered in Penzance in southwest England to break the record for the largest ever synchronised routine.

Some 270 swimmers, half wearing yellow swim caps and the other half blue, forming Ukraine's flag, took part in the Swim For Ukraine event at Jubilee Pool in Penzance. The current record is 247.

Those in the pool performed a two-minute, choreographed swim. Guinness World Records now has to confirm the record.

The record attempt was organised by artist Anthony Garratt in collaboration with Newlyn School of Art as part of the Penzance Arts Festival 2022.

Garratt told planetradio.co.uk: “We just like the idea of getting people together in these big mass events. On the whole it's a really positive way of getting people to engage with a subject and the record just adds an extra bit of a challenge in.”

Money raised will go via Unicef to help children in Ukraine. Visit www.swimforukraine.co.uk for more information.
