Curious Orca (Killer Whale) juvenile approaching boat

Buy video

Orcas, or Killer Whales (Orcinus orca) are the world's largest species of dolphin. Orcas are widespread throughout the oceans and are highly intelligent. They prey on a wide variety of marine mammals, fish and squid, often diving to over 1000 metres when hunting. The Bremer Canyon 70 km off the south coast of Western Australia hosts a distinctive population of Orcas, that are not related to the Orca populations of Antarctica, nor those occurring off the west coast of Australia.

This pod comprised about 10 animals, including one large male and two subadults. For more information on how to experience such superb experiences with whales off the coast of Western Australia, please visit www.whalewatchwesternaustralia.com

This curious juvenile approached our boat, turning on its side to see us better as it passed under the bow.
