Baby zebra curiously investigates his dust bathing brother

Buy video

This video was recorded in the Kruger National Park, South Africa. It shows a young male zebra enjoying a dust bath. He rolls over on his back completely, creating a dust cloud that hangs around him. Suddenly his baby brother curiously approaches and looks fascinated by his big brother rolling around in the dirt. He investigates closer and on occasion gets frightened by his brother’s erratic movements in a comical manner. The baby zebra continues to look amused and fascinated by his big brother’s funny behaviour. At the same time the baby will be learning a very important lesson from his big brother on how to get rid of all those irritating itches pestering their skin. Zebra are keen dust-bathers and frequently roll in loose dirt, helping to control biting flies and insects. Zebra are able to roll over on their backs completely, a trait not shared by antelope.
