A fishing trip off the coast of California turned into a memorable close encounter with a pod of grey whales.

Video shot on Sunday (April 15) off the coast of Orange County shows a group of people fishing on kayaks being sprayed by four grey whales and some bottlenose dolphins.

The whales' performance was met with a chorus of "'wows" from the kayakers.

Writes the filmer: "Some local fisherman on kayaks suddenly saw four grey whales appear from the depths right next to them after swimming directly beneath them. The whales consisted of two mothers and their two calves along with some bottlenose dolphin."
