Cape Fear River near Fayetteville, North Carolina, neared crest on September 18, forcing neighboring residents to flee to safety.

This video, filmed by Michelle Bir, shows the situation at about 12:30 pm that day.

The river will crest at about 61.5 feet and is not expected to drop below the 35-foot flood stage until Saturday. This is one of 19 river gauges in the Carolinas at a "major" flood stage, the National Weather Service said, following Hurricane Florence which has killed at least 32 people and brought devastating damage to the coastal cities.
