A ferocious monitor lizard was caught after running through a restaurant in front of shocked diners.

The 6ft long reptile sparked panic when it scurried across the floor of the noodle shop in Suphan Buri, Thailand, on September 3.

It took refuge at the back of the premises, finding a cool spot under the kitchen sink to take a nap. Just a handful of customers were left when the emergency services arrived to catch the beast.

The lizard struck out angrily swiping its tail at animal handlers who managed to lasso its head and drag it to a waiting van to be released back into the wild.

Restaurant boss Khun Viroj, 50, said: ''I was with my wife and daughter helping customers when the monitor lizard ran in from outside. I've had this business for three years and never seen a monitor lizard.

''I think this is a sign of good luck and lots of money will be coming to me soon.''

In Thailand, it is considered a great blessing if a monitor lizard visits your property and locals believe they will receive good luck and fortune.
