A listed building near Ipswich docks was caught ablaze yesterday evening (November 26).

The office building which hasn't been occupied since 1993 - which used to be the offices of confectionary makers Burton, Son and Sanders - and is now in a derelict state was ravaged by flames at around 3:30 pm.

The fire that started on the ground floor of the structure has since been contained after five fire engines attended the blaze. The cause is still unknown.

Safety measures regarding the building, resulted in the fire service using aerial support to distinguish whether it wass structurally sound and safe to enter.

Road closures on the one-way system on College Street have now been lifted and traffic has returned to normal despite firemen still being present.
