This is the emotional moment a caring school teacher comforted a struggling student who broke down in tears after passing his exam.

Eleven-year-old Haqim had taken his final year PLSE exam at the primary school in Singapore but had been wracked with worry about the outcome, because he knew he is ''not the brightest'' in the class.

On November 22 when the day came to collect the certificate, he was amazed to find he had passed every subject.

He was so relieved he started crying with joy.

Footage shows how kind-hearted teacher Madam Azlinah, who had been mentoring Haqim in the previous weeks, hugged him and congratulated him for his hard work.

Haqim's delighted mother Haryati Saleh praised the teacher and said she was ''exemplary''.

Saleh said: ''I'm not ashamed to admit that my son was very weak in all his subjects. However, with hard work from Haqim himself plus extraordinary and dedicated teachers, from school & tuition centre, success came his way.

''I took this video when the teacher handed my son his PSLE result. Just look at how the teacher gently hugged him and giving her congratulatory speech to him as well as words of encouragement to keep up the good work. The bond between teachers and pupils can be life-changing and very special.''

The Primary School Leaving Examination is a national examination in Singapore that is taken by all students near the end of their sixth year in primary school before they move on to secondary school.
