In Hanoi, young male adults enjoy a Vietnamese delicacy, coconut worms.

Coconut worm is a yellow larva. The cost of the dish is half a US dollar, although it rises out of season.

This is a very special dish, The larvae are taken from the coconut tree. They are called "Đuông Dừa" or "coconut worm". "Duong Dua" is a form of beetle larvae. After the breeding season, the beetle usually chooses the healthy coconut, pierces a hole on top and lays the eggs in it. After the eggs hatch, the larvae grow by eating the young shoot of the coconut tree until the tree is pierced through. People caught them in coconut trees and moved to restaurants for processing. Coconut worm is most yummy when it is still alive. Live worm will be placed in a bowl of fish sauce and chili.
Men love this dish. They said they were scared for the first time when eating live worms. If not careful, the larvae can attack. However, after eating they enjoyed and no longer fear.
The price of a worm is 0.5 USD; out of season the price is even higher. Only a few restaurants sell this dish. This is one 10 Weird Food in Vietnam.
