Muslim community in Cape Town holds mass meal to mark last Friday of Ramadan

The muslim community of Bo-Kaap in Cape Town held a mass iftar in Wale Street, on the border of the Cape Town CBD, on the last Friday of the Islamic holy month of Ramadaan.

The South African government recently declared 19 sites within the area as national heritage sites, in order to preserve the culture of the community, which was settled by Malay slaves during the colonial era. The site was known as the Malay Quarter during colonial times.
