Cape Town, South Africa - 6 February 2024: President Cyril Ramaphosa entered the Belhar Sports Centre to rousing applause from young people from across Cape Town. Ramaphosa was there to celebrate more than 1.8 million economic opportunities for young people created by the National Youth Development Agency and other government economic entities.

Even though Ramaphosa was more than two hours late and appeared to have a hoarse voice and possibly flu-like conditions he explained his government’s approach to tackling youth unemployment. South Africa has one of the highest youth unemployment rates in the world.

Ramaphosa is set to deliver his State of The Nation Address (SONA) on Thursday evening and unemployment has been a constant feature of his speeches since becoming president in 2018
