A video has emerged of at least 15 cows being rescued from inside a dried up pond in western India.

On June 21 in Dindori area of Nashik district of Maharashtra state, a herd of 60 cows went to the dried up pond to get a drink of water. As India is reeling under an acute water crisis, the lakes, reservoirs and ponds have gone dry leaving little or no water for people as well as animals and birds.

Visuals shows a group of kind villagers fastening the harness on one of the bovine's body and using a tractor to pull it out to the slushy pond. One by one, they rescued all the 15 cows and also offered them water for drinking.

Drying up of lakes, wells and ponds is a recurring problem during the summer months in the western region of India.

The average temperature during this period hovers around the mid-40 mark, making life difficult for both humans and animals.

Several animals and reptiles often come out of their habitat in search of food and water.

The bovines too had ventured out in search of water only to get trapped in the slush.
