A chilling moment captured on CCTV in west India shows a leopard sneaking up on a dog and attacking it, before the dog escapes with its life.

The incident took place in the early hours of September 29 in Nashik city, Maharashtra state.

CCTV footage shows a parking area of a house and a dog lying on the footsteps of the entrance.

Suddenly a leopard is seen entering the area, slowly sneaking up on the sleeping dog, before trying to bite its neck.

Unfortunately for the leopard, it could not get a good grasp of the dog, which woke up and immediately started barking to alert the residents.

The attack was only discovered the next day and by that time, the leopard had disappeared into the wild.

Forest officers were informed about the presence of the big cat in the locality, and searched the area to rule out any possibility of it hiding in the neighbourhood.

However the leopard was nowhere to be found.

The cat reportedly had tried to attack this dog before and the dog has not been seen since, and its owners are still waiting for it to return.

Suddenly a leopard is seen entering the scene, slowly approaching its prey. It stealthily moves towards the dog while checking the surroundings and making pauses to not alert the dog.

It soon stops near the head of the dog and in moments attacks the neck of its prey.

Unfortunately, it could not get a good grasp of the dog as the now awake dog starts barking to alert the residents.

The leopard yet does not give up and tries to chase the dog as the two are seen running out of the frame.
