A chubby python had to be rescued after getting tangled in a net fence.

Rescuer volunteer Khun Maha received an emergency call from a concerned resident who noticed the large snake near their home in Bangkok, Thailand on Monday (October 28) morning.

Footage from Maha's friend shows how he carefully cut the 7ft long python free from the net that was used to protect a school playground.

One of the locals said that he saw the snake had become tangled because its belly was too big after a recent snack.

Maha said: "I think that the snake might have just eaten a rat as its belly appeared to be full, which caused him to get stuck in the net while it tried to sneak through.

''The net is there to protect children from snakes. We know now that it works.''

The rescuers put the python in the sack and delivered it to the local wildlife authorities.
