Alleged 'sexual predator' appears in South African magistrates court
Willem Breytenbach appeared in the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court. He has been charged with 6 counts of indecent assault and 1 count of sexual assault.
According to media reports about 41 men have come forward with claims of sexual assault committed by Breytenbach,
Breytenbach was granted bail by the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court on 5 December after being arrested in Mossel Bay on 3 December 2019.
Breytenbach is a former teacher and journalist and was also for a period a senior executive at Media24, South Africa’s largest media company.
Late last year Breytenbach was outed in a podcast by Deon Wiggett. Wiggett met Breytenbach while participating a school newspaper project while Breytenbach was employed by Media24.
Breytenbach is due back in court on 30 March 2019.
