Rescued baby elephant becomes friends with forest guard carers in south India
Forest guards rescued a two-month-old elephant from a residential area in south India, and now it has befriended its carers while being cared for until its mother can collect it.
The two-month-old baby elephant was found near Edamalayar, Kerala, on February 22 around 3:00pm, and was caught by forest officials and safely isolated inside a temporary barricade.
It is believed that the baby fell into the nearby river and was washed by the current downstream towards populated areas.
The baby was filmed being coaxed over by forest guards using fruit and water, which the baby happily takes, even wrapping its trunk around one of the guard's hips.
Villagers have turned out in large numbers to see the baby elephant and take selfies with it.
A doctor will examine the baby elephant and forest officials stated that they will wait for the mother elephant to come and collect her baby.
