Sid, Serbia, 23/01/17

Thousands of refugees and migrants have found themselves stuck in Serbia as the countries neighbours Croatia and Hungary tightened their borders. The number of refugees and migrants passing through Serbia has risen dramatically over the last 6 months as people are actively avoiding trying to pass through Bulgaria and Hungary.

A migrant from Pakistan explains how the situation to the north of Serbia along the Hungarian border has become more difficult and is deterring refugees and migrants from attempting to cross.

A refugee mother from Afghanistan explains the hardship she experienced in Bulgaria.

Despite being a small and economically deprived country in the Balkans the Serbian government has been leading the way in terms of humanitarian aid and support in the region. Serbia currently has more than a dozen refugee camps in operation all over the country which are built and maintained to a high standard.
