To control crowds and enable social distancing, railway authorities in the western Indian state of Maharashtra have started drawing markings on the platforms and footbridges.

Footage from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus railway station in Mumbai on June 17, shows passengers standing in the marked areas, and maintaining considerable distance from each other.

According to local reports, 30,000-35,000 circles, squares, arrows, and lines have been drawn so far, and more are expected.

To maintain social distancing norms, the Central Railways and Western Railways are also in the process of launching a QR-based electronic pass for daily commuters of Mumbai local trains.

To control the crowd at railway stations and enable social distancing, railway authorities in the western Indian state of Maharashtra have started drawing special marks on platforms and foot over bridges.

The incident took place at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus railway station in Mumbai on June 17.

The railway authorities have drawn circles, arrows, squares, lines on platforms, and foot over bridges to enable social distancing.

Visual shows, passengers standing in the marked areas, and maintaining considerable distance from each other.

According to reports, 30,000- 35,000 circles, squares, arrows, lines have been drawn so far and more can be expected to create holding areas for passengers in the coming days.

Apart from that, with the help of NGOs and other organisations, the railway authorities have also started pasting stickers to maintain a sufficient gap while walking on the platform.

Out of these 35,000 marks, over 10,000 square marks are drawn at CSMT and 5,000 squares are drawn at Kalyan.

Apart from that, to maintain social distancing norms, the Central Railways and Western Railways are in process to launch a QR based electronic-pass for daily commuters of Mumbai local trains.
