Evacuation process underway by National Disaster Response Force teams after cyclone Nisarga pounced upon coastal areas of western India

Evacuation by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams is underway in coastal areas of western India's Gujarat after cyclone Nisarga battered the state with heavy rainfall coupled with strong winds.

The rescue operations took place at Siyadbet Island in Jafrabad of Amreli on June 3.

The cyclone has brought up a double challenge for NDRF as they also have to maintain the precautionary measures to avoid the spread of COVID-19 pandemic.

The evacuation is taking place keeping in social distancing norms in place.

According to reports, at least 40 people were rescued including five women.

Sporadic incidents like trees felling, damage to houses and power disruptions were reported from several places in the state.

After several hours, the cyclone shows signs of weakening with no casualties reported.
