Giant 75ft long whale carcass washes ashore in Indonesia
The carcass of a giant whale washed up on a beach in Indonesia.
This 23 metre (75 foot) pygmy blue whale marine mammal was found at Nuhnila Beach off the coast of Kupang City in East Nusa Tenggara on Tuesday (July 21).
Officials are investigating how the whale died. It is believed to have been dragged by the ocean currents before washing ashore.
Ikram Sangadji, head of Kupang's National Water Conservation Area (BKKPN), said: "We will take a sample of the contents of the stomach for examination. At the same time see whether there is waste in the whale's stomach.''
Officers deployed heavy equipment vehicles to bury the whale carcass. The carcass was rotting and had a bad smell with some parts of the body already peeled off.
