Adorable Luna Moth emerges from her cocoon

Buy video

A Luna Moth emerges from her carefully spun silk cocoon. After softening the cocoon with an enzyme she stored in her abdomen, we can see her repeatedly pushing her head against the cocoon to break through and emerge. Her engorged abdomen is filled with more of this fluid, that she will use to "inflate" her wings, giving her the appearance of being chubby when she first emerges. These moths lack a digestive system, and only live for a few days after emerging.
