A huge plume of ash billowed from Mount Etna in Sicily on Saturday (October 3rd) affecting local villages and disrupting flight paths.

Footage showed dense clouds of ash, as well as other solid volcanic material spewing from the Southeast Crater.

According to the filmer, Catania airport has been forced to close some sectors of its airspace although it remains open.

The eruptive activity at the Southeast Crater, one of the four active craters of the Etna volcano, continues unabated. The fallout of lava material is affecting almost all of the Etna villages with the Catania airport forced to close some sectors of the airspace (airport which however remains operational).
