Dramatic dashcam footage has emerged from China of police struggling to capture a runaway bull in a suburb of Sichuan Province.

The video, captured from a dashboard mounted camera in the police car during the chase late last month, shows the bull running down a busy street and being repeatedly hit by the police car.

According to local news reports, the owner of the 400kg bull was delivering it to an abattoir when the animal jumped off the truck and ran away.

The escaped bull injured two pedestrians on its way into the town centre and showed no signs of stopping.

When police arrived they followed the animal in their patrol vehicle and deliberately hit it a number of times but were unable to run it down.

The situation was bought to a close when one of the police officers managed to shoot the bull in a public park – but not before he suffered injuries from the animal as well.

Three injured people – including the owner of the bull and the two pedestrians – were able to go home, while the injured police officer was sent to hospital for further treatment.
