A pot-bellied pig named Totoro from a Serbian animal sanctuary has become best friends with a cat after being rescued from a previously abusive environment.

Footage from November 16 shows Totoro and best friend Ilan lounging in the sun, whilst Ilan the cat gives him a massage.

Since being rescued from a "terrible environment of animal abuse," Totoro has become popular with cats in the sanctuary.

The owners of Serbian Sanctuary are on a mission to "protect the voiceless" and give many animals a better lease of life.

Since opening one year ago, they have rescued one pig, one goat, two chickens and a sheep.

They told Newsflare: "In this video, you can see our sanctuary's star named Totoro and our handsome cat Ilan using him as a bed.

"Totoro is a pot-bellied pig saved from [a] terrible environment of animal abuse.

"He is happy full-grown pig now. Ilan and Totoro grew up together.

"As the pig grew, we noticed that he was quite interesting not only to Ilan but also to other cats.

"Cats climb on him all day, whenever Totoro lies on the ground, cats climb on him right away and start massaging, licking, or simply falling asleep on him.

"Totoro loves cats and cats love him."

We (me and my wife) are writing you from that small, unknown country in South-Eastern Europe called Serbia. We decided to move to the countryside and help animals as much as we can do physically and financially . In a year, we succeeded to save one goat, pig, two chickens and sheep. They live very happy lives now with our dogs and cats. We wish this will grow into one big animal sanctuary one day, even though in our hopes and dreams we are big anyway.
We decided to fully dedicate ourselves to them and to the other animals that we could possibly save in the future.
