A 13ft-long python was rescued after its head was stuck inside a drain cover in Thailand.

The hapless creature was trying to escape through the sewers after hunting for food at a village in Chachoengsao province.

However, only its head was able to fit inside the narrow hole leaving its tail wiggling above the concrete sewer cover.

Residents who saw the reptile panicked but became confused when it had not moved from its position after a while.

They checked on the animal and found its head was stuck inside the hole so they called the local reptile handlers for help.

Using catching rods with a noose, the rescue team pulled the bloated animal out of the hole.

The snake aggressively resisted the three rescuers and tried to hide under a nearby vehicle, but they eventually managed to pin it down.

It was unharmed and placed it inside a sack to be released later into the wild while the residents thanked the rescue team.
