Police in Nantes, France, fired tear gas at people protesting against a new security bill that could criminalise filming police officers.

At least 6,000 people gathered at the demonstration on Friday 27 November, though some local media estimated the number as double that.

People marched through the streets and raised their phones to denounce the bill, which would criminalise the publication of images of on-duty police officers with the intent of harming their "physical or psychological integrity".

The bill has passed its first reading in the lower house of parliament but recent publication of video showing French police beating then tear-gassing a Black man, has increased pressure against the bill, prompting the government to say it will review its wording.

Police later fired tear gas at protesters.
