The Forest Department of northern India's Uttarakhand state rescued a three-year-old female leopard from a cage on December 7.

The rescue operation was carried out in Jhajra area of Dehradun, as visuals show the trapped leopard in an anxious state surrounded by Forest officials.

On the morning of December 7, the Jhajra Forest Range Department received information of the big cat trapped in a cage set up near the University of Petroleum and Energy Studies (UPES). They immediately sent a team to rescue the leopard from the man-made trap suspected to be set up by poachers in the area.

The leopard had suffered injuries in one of its legs as a result of the trap. In order to rescue and treat it, the animal was tranquillised and taken to the Dehradun Zoo where a team of veterinarians treated it before keeping it under supervision.

While being rescued, a video from later shows the tranquillised animal covered by a net to carry out the rescue operation safely. However, the animal, even in its sedated state, manages to break free from the net.

It is then covered by a thick piece of fabric and sedated yet again to ease its rescue and treatment.

Jhajra Forest Range Officer Vinay Mohan Raturi, Ravi Joshi from the Dehradun Head Quarter team, and Dr Rakesh Natuiyal along with a team of Forest officials and veterinarians successfully rescued the animal and treated it.
