Blue Sky Rescue, China's largest non-governmental humanitarian organisation, used a flamethrowing drone to help remove wasp nests in southern China.

The video, shot in the city of Chongqing on December 7, shows a drone spraying fire onto a wasp nest on top of a tree.

According to reports, the Blue Sky Rescue spent 85,000 yuan (£9,700) to get the drone to remove the wasp nests for local residents for free.

The rescue team has removed 11 wasp nests which were located in high places and there were still over 100 nests waiting to be removed.

12月7日上午，重庆忠县蓝天救援队连续接到群众求助电话，称东溪镇及忠州街道辖区有十多个篮球般大小的马蜂窝，附近居民常被蜇到，希望前来清除。接报后，救援队队员立即带上无人机等装备迅速驾车赶往东溪镇辖区双新村、忠州街道郑公居委、新桥居委剿灭马蜂窝。
到了现场，救援队员将汽油装入塑料桶里，操作无人机升空，约一分钟后，无人机逐渐靠近树梢上的马蜂窝，喷火器对准马蜂窝吐出长长火焰。几分钟后，马蜂窝燃起忽明忽暗的火焰，无人机方才缓缓降落。马蜂窝燃烧的灰烬逐渐剥离掉落，周围的居民鼓掌欢呼，为救援队员点赞。
据蓝天救援队周洪成介绍，以前他们都是穿防护服用喷射杀虫药剂的传统方式人工摘除马蜂窝，具有较大安全隐患，救援人员经常会被残余马蜂蛰到。近期，该救援队自筹资金85000元买了一架专用无人机，免费为忠县辖区群众清除马蜂窝。用无人机剿灭马蜂更干净彻底，又安全可靠，还可用于水上救援抛救生圈等用途。
据介绍，忠县蓝天救援队当天已用无人机剿灭11个位置较高的马蜂窝，余下还有100多个马蜂窝清除工作需要完成。
