Entertaining footage has emerged of a snowboarder crashing into a skier on a slope in Santa Fe, New Mexico, US.

Friends say the snowboarder was trying to scare a skiing friend by getting close before stopping, but accidentally sent him flying into the air.

In the footage from Monday the snowboarder comes up behind Brandon, the skier, at speed with the intention of stopping just before impact. As he tries, he knocks the skier's legs out from under him and sends him spectacularly upwards into the air in a wave of snow.

The filmer later wrote online: " While on vacation in Santa Fe we hit the slopes for a half day of skiing. My friend Brandon hadn’t been on skis in over a decade so most of the day was spent getting back into the groove.

"After lots of convincing we talked him in to going on an expert black diamond slope for the last run of the day. He was nervous but eventually relented and went along."

"Things were going well until our friend who was trailing behind on his snowboard decided to see how close he could get to Brandon before stopping. Big time fail."
